Letting go of the Past

By Lizzie Sheehan

The large intestine teaches us about letting go of the past experiences we have gone through. The experiences we’ve had with material objects as well as relationships, work spaces and where you call home have been changing.

This whole year has been about opening up as many doors as we possibly can in order to see what is out there in the world. We have tried different relationship with lovers and with friends. Perhaps many have found different job opportunities or have moved up in the positions they are in. The theme of this past year has been about expansion, adventure, seeking out the greater truth of existence, and really just going for it in every way that we can.

We have taken on many different energies from people and the places we have been to both physically, and mentally within our minds. This expansive energy that has been so easily accessible to us this past year has given us the gift of dreaming of bigger and better things.

The large intestine in Chinese medicine is paired with the lungs. We experienced the lesson of the lungs as fall started to approach this year. Fall is the time of harvesting our crops and getting ready for winter to approach. We cut out all of the unnecessary parts of our lives and decided what was pure and important. The knowledge about what needs to go is there. We already did this work. Now it is time to release the physicality of it and let it go for good.

It is now time to walk through one of the doors that we opened up this past year. There are many to pick from but it’s time to focus and zone in on the path of your destiny. Pick the path that will help you reach the top of your own mountain.

We all know that the large intestine is the last spot where the physical matter is held before it leaves our body. This represents the end of the cycle of the materialism within our lives. It was welcomed into our lives and we used it as much as we could. Now it’s time to let it go.

We must release it forever and move on. Move on to new adventures, new ways of thinking and new ways of living. Take that path you’ve chosen even if it’s unfamiliar and different. Experience something fresh and new that will excite you in new ways.

Life is a circular cycle and now that we are at the end of the year it is so important not to hold on to anything that will prevent you from moving forward. You can’t keep the old clutter in your house if your trying to remodel it. You can’t keep the tires of your old car if you’re upgrading to an SUV. If you keep that old stuff around the energy and memories that are attached to it will continue to grasp ahold of you when you try to move forward.

Removing and letting go of these material aspects that we have can feel scary and create an emptiness within. Let yourself feel that “emptiness” because what it really is, is you making room for yourself to grow from within.

The metal element is about refinement. The lungs and the large intestine are about removing waste from the body. Both these organs have taught us what needed to go so those decisions have been made. Now it’s time to cut the cords and release yourself from it all forever.

Walk through that door but make sure to take your old shoes off before you take your first step.
